615-883-6103The Outreach Ministry team at Donelson Heights United Methodist is actively helping members of our community, whether it’s a family recovering from a fire or residents who have lost everything in a flood. We have provided needed materials for our Pencil Partners at three elementary schools, donating backpacks, school supplies and clothing plus providing lunch for the Teacher’s Appreciation Day. Our Community Garden supports both Community Care Fellowship, a homeless center, and Second Harvest Food Bank, an emergency food center.
From November to March each year, our
church participates with
Campus for Human Development
in the "Room in the Inn” project, teaming with other local churches
to provide shelter for homeless individuals. Donelson Heights UMC
houses 10 persons each Wednesday night offering food, a change of
clothing, a warm bed and needed compassion.
Outreach is also charged with helping the congregation become
involved in spreading the Gospel beyond our local community.
This includes connecting members to mission projects of the United
Methodist Church, such as the United Methodist Committee on Relief
(UMCOR). This is a hands-on effort of our members as we worked with
flood
victims, using flood buckets the church had prepared, and
involving our youth and members in working side by side to make a
difference.
Our Mission extends to Vacation Bible School, where our children
lovingly brought toys, games, puzzles and books to share with
children who had lost everything in the flood.
Our members support us with Second Mile Giving, the over-and-above
giving that Gods asks of each of us, and the kindness of memorials
dedicated to the Outreach projects. We have recently been energized
by the addition of one of our newest and youngest church members,
plus the love and support of the church.
