PASTOR’S BIBLE STUDY RESUMESBible Study

Monday, February 22, 1-2:30 p.m. the study of scripture led by our pastor, will resume.  Anyone is welcome to come “dig into the treasures of God’s Word” in these weekly sessions.  During the season of Lent, the study will focus on several major issues about being a follower of Christ.  The first session will be on “Willpower - Following Jesus into the Wilderness.”  A passage from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament will be the foundation of each discussion.  No advance preparation is required, and although the class is heavily geared toward discussion, persons are welcome to just come and listen.  The themes for the rest of this series are:

February 22:  Willpower
March 1:
  Repentance
March 8: Resentment
March 15: Accepting ourselves and others
March 22: Trusting God
March 29: Spiritual battles
April 5th:  No class the day after Easter

Lenten Study to Focus on Council of Bishop's Letter
“God's Renewed Creation:  Call to Hope and Action”

Rev. Deb Smith will be leading a six week study beginning Wednesday night, February 24 exploring the Pastoral Letter and Foundation Document, “God's Renewed Creation:  Call to Hope and Action” unanimously approved by the United Methodist Church's Council of Bishops at their 2009 fall meeting.  You can read the Bishop’s letter here.

The document began to take shape at the 2004 General Conference and wastree sprouting out of the earth approved after input from over 5,400 United Methodists from around the world had input in the document.  The document is an attempt to address what the church sees as three interrelated threats to the health of God's creation: pandemic poverty and disease, environmental degradation, and the proliferation of weapons and violence.  This study will not only explore these problems, but also will address the ways in which they are spiritual issues.  The study will address the recognition that the world cannot hope to be changed until we allow God to change our way of being in it.  For more information or to indicate your interest in being a part of the study, email Deb Smith at dsmith@gbod.org.

Prayer Breakfast opportunity:  Monday mornings at 7:00 a.m. we have a prayer breakfast in the Aldersgate room.  Anyone is welcome to join us!
